University of Queensland embraces synthetic fields
Synthetic fields have reached Queensland, particularly the University of Queensland (UQ).
This is part of the University’s $24 million development fund. It is a project completed through close collaboration with the UQ Sport and UQ Endowment Fund.
See the image below for UQ’s plan.

Features of UQ’s state of the art sports facility
Included in this world class facility are two multi-use synthetic fields that features:
a. Â player dug-outs
b. digital scoreboards
c. Â LED lighting
This is now ready to be used for variety of sports activities such as:
a. hockey
b.touch football
c. lacrosse
d. soccer
e. ultimate disc
f. athletics spring training
Read the words from Bryan Pryde, UQ Sports chief executive:
“The high-quality synthetic turf is laid over shock pads to help reduce injury, and field quality will always be consistent.
“The fields are more durable than grass ones, so there are no capacity issues.
“This means we can use the artificial fields more, and reduce the impact on our grass fields, improving sporting facilities across campus.”
Synthetic fields maintenance of University of Queensland
Amidst the no maintenance advertisement of most synthetic grass, UQ decided it is but necessary to have 12 sprinklers that will water and cool their playing fields. This is but necessary as it is not just a field we are talking about here. It is a field meant to support the needs of athletes. Thus a need to ensure faster ball movement and reduced friction for players.
Are you thinking of having synthetic fields for your backyard? Why not? You can install one yourself. Learn how.
